Heterophyid egg - 18 x 12 microns - a spurious infection of a small fluke egg. These flukes are commonly in fish or shell-fish or fish eating birds and mammals. One species, Heterophyes heterophyes will infect humans if raw or inadequeately cooked fish is ingested but the egg is 27-30 microns x 15-17 microns. It is found in the Far East and the Nile delta. Measurements are vital to correctly id parasites as is knowledge of parasite epidemiology and a thorough clinical and travel history.
